Goldstone was the site of the All-Sky Survey portion of NASA's Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), later called the High Resolution Microwave Survey (HRMS). The initial deployment of this survey took place on October 12 1992. In October 1993, NASA cut the HRMS funding from its budget. The SETI Institute continued the Targetted Search portion of NASA's SETI programme with private funding under the name Project Phoenix.
